Carousel
Music by Richard Rodgers | Book & Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
A carefree carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, Captivates and marries naive millworker Julie Jordan. Billy loses his job just as he learns that Julie is pregnant. Desperate to provide for his family, he becomes an accomplice to a robbery. Caught in the act and facing the certainty of prison, he takes his own life and is sent 'up there.' Fifteen years later, Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day where he encounters the daughter he never knew. Her father's reputation has haunted her throughout her young life. She is lonely and friendless. Billy's dramatic testimony to the power of love instills in both mother and child a sense of hope and dignity.
Of all the shows they created Carousel was Rodgers & Hammerstein's personal favorite. Musical numbers include If I Loved You, June Is Bustin' Out All Over, You'll Never Walk Alone and more.
